Photoshop guru, Colin Smith, founder of PhotoshopCafe, has been providing training to Photoshop users for many years, through his books and training DVDs. With the recent release of Photoshop CS6, Colin is right on time with new training to get you up-to-speed quickly and working more efficiently.
I recently checked out Colin Smith's "PhotoshopSecrets: Photoshop CS6 for Digital Photographers," one of the latest offerings in PhotoshopCafe's ever-growing line of training DVDs. I've purchased a few of Colin's earlier training DVDs in the past and always found his teaching to be very engaging, easy to follow, and downright fun. The same holds true in this new title. Plus, Colin always throws in plenty of tips and tricks along the way.
The training in Photoshop CS6 for Digital Photographers includes a total of 80 lessons (including an "introduction" and "closing" segment with Colin), and is broken up into 7 sections, which I will outline here.
Bridge and Camera RAW
Get an excellent tour of the new Bridge CS6 and learn tricks to getting the most out of it. Learn about organizing, sequences, metadata, stacks, making contact sheets, and learn how to effectively use the new Mini Bridge panel.
See a great feature-by-feature walkthrough of Camera RAW and learn about file formats, presets, adjusting, and noise reduction.
Adjustments in Photoshop
Learn how to work with and understand levels, curves, histograms, and layers. You are even treated to a fantastic lesson on setting preferences in Photoshop to optimize the program and the way you work in it. Also included, are great lessons on shadows and highlights in both landscape images and portraits, as well as a cool lesson on working in Lab color mode.
The lessons in this section have you learning about cropping, straightening images and using perspective crop, sharpening, and using the dodge and burn tools in new ways. Also, learn how to use layer masks to bring out incredible details in your images.
In this section, the lessons go into more advanced masking, content-aware tools, cloning, replacing color, and using the healing brush. You also get a cool lesson on using the puppet tool to alter body shapes and poses.
Working with Multiple Images
This section deals with creating panoramas and collages, working with smart objects and smart filters, using vanishing point, and all about HDR. Colin also makes very clean work of extracting objects from their backgrounds...a definite must-see.
As suggested by the name of the section, these lessons show you how you can get creative with your photos. Learn about HDR toning, getting that soft glow effect for portraits, black and white techniques, the miniaturizing tilt-shift lens effect, depth of field and even how to merge the focus of several shots. Also learn how to use the Mixer Brush to turn your photos into paintings.
Learn all about Photoshop's video editing tools. This section shows you how to import, arrange, edit, and trim video clips. Further, you'll learn how to add layer effects, transitions, and even create lower thirds and add moving text.
Like all of the training DVDs offered on PhotoshopCafe.com, the interface itself is absolutely fantastic. Also, Colin includes all the images he uses in the training, so you can easily follow along.
PhotoshopSecrets: Photoshop CS6 for Digital Photographers is available as a physical DVD, or as a digital download for $99.99 (USD)
I highly recommend checking this out, as there are so many tips, tricks, and real work examples that you will surely use over and over again in your own work. Get it now at PhotoshopCafe
