full_14630.jpgCongratulations to powerage for being Renderosity's Vendor of the Month for August!

Who is 'powerage' and how did you come by that username?

Firstly, a big 'thank you' to Renderosity for giving me this award for the 3rd time, I am honored :)

The first time I connected to the internet, my ISP asked for a nickname. I had no idea, and the "POWERAGE" album by AC / DC dragged to the ground, so I used the title of this album for my nickname :) My real name is Christophe, I'm 40 years old and I live in Bordeaux, France.

Have you had any traditional art experience or training?

Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity of studying art. But, I always loved drawing. So, I learned the techniques of digital art, thanks to the books and the internet: forums and tutorials.

What are you currently working on?

I am currently finalizing a set of armor in the style of fantasy / medieval. This armor will be available in September in my store. In parallel, I am also working on an architectural product that will be available in mid August. I think it is quite original in its concept of use. And I started another very ambitious project, but I will say nothing on a date.

What software is currently in your digital toolset and why?

My main software is: 3ds Max, Photoshop and Poser, plus some other small utilities that facilitate my work. I use these tools because with them I learned 3D, and therefore as I know them well, I can concentrate on what I want to do without worrying about technical concerns and having little time to learn other software.

How would you describe your creative process?

First, I find a source of inspiration. It can come from anywhere: movies, comics, street, etc. ... Then, I try to research the subject in order to note important details that contribute to the credibility of the model. After that, it is enough to get to work and also to engage my imagination.

Are there perhaps any tips or tricks you have found in your own work that might be of help to others learning the software you use?

A very simple trick, but crucial: to work specifically, do not hesitate to zoom into the area where you work, hide elements of your scene where you do not work. This has two advantages: you will work more comfortably and you will relieve your computer. Conversely, once your work is done, step back, in order to detect possible defects. In fact, when we model, it is an eternal zoom in and out.

Where do you find inspiration for your products, and do you have any particular favorite among the products you've created?

As mentioned earlier, inspiration can come from anywhere. The key for me is mainly to want to do it. I have an affection for all my products, because they all represent a moment of my life, and therefore, memories. It would be very difficult to choose only one, but if I did, I would probably choose "The Tournament," because I really transpired in the making of it. But, in reality, my favorite is the one I have not done yet, that is to say, the next.

Have you ever created product in response to customer feedback?

Yes, it's already happened. For example, "Unlimited Zombies" was made at the request of several customers. Elsewhere, I have an ongoing project requested by a customer, but I have difficulty with it.

Do you have any advice for aspiring Digital Content Developers?

It is important to know the basic techniques, whether for work in 2D or 3D. You should also know that in product developement, Poser requires a tremendous amount of work. Do what you love, to optimize the success of your product. Try to build an efficient workflow, as it is important for the comfort of work. Stay organized and attentive to detail. Be sure to listen to yourself, but also keep the comments outside, because when you work on a project, one is too involved and this can pollute our objective vision. And finally, continue working, at one time or another you will be rewarded for your hard work.

How has this online Community (Renderosity) enhanced your work, relationships, and learning?

Renderosity is my second home :) Here is a concentration of artists from various backgrounds. I, of course, have built friendships here over all these years. It is also thanks to Renderosity that I found the motivation to fully invest myself in the implementation of digital content.

Do you have any final words or advice for other digital artists?

Firstly, a big 'thank you' to all my loyal customers - it is you who helped me grow, and I thank you for that. A big 'thank you' to the staff of Renderosity: Debbie, Karen, Xenophonz, Preston, Blake, Kristi, and all the others for your patience and listening. Thank you to all my friends here, especially 2Mylent for all his time spent testing my products. And thank you to my family for their support.
