file_493402.jpgCongratulations to danae for being Renderosity's Vendor of the Month for April!

Who is 'danae'?

I am a 36 year old designer artist living in Athens, Greece with my wonderful husband, my 4 year old son, and a 7 year old Border Collie. I have worked on film and Television, Art Direction, Interior and Industrial Design, and as a Digital artist. I love reading, watching anything with costumes and period drama, hanging out in my home office and planning my next project, which ranges from historical embroidery and painting to making our own furniture. I love to combine the old with the new and  I am always fascinated by the history behind antique objects.

I dread having to explain to people what I do as a digital artist because usually I get blank stares or long pauses followed by something like “…so you do, um, dolls?” So, if anyone has a nice and condensed way of explaining what we do, I would be forever grateful if they could share!

How long have you been involved in digital art?

I have just realized that it has been 10 years since my first vendor of the month, so I am estimating around 12-13 years in 3D and about 15 years in digital art in general. What always fascinated me in digital art is that, with the right amount of knowledge, you can create almost anything you imagine.

What made you decide to become a Vendor?

I remember admiring the products and work of other people and vendors and giving it a try for myself. My first product, a character, was soon released and I knew then that this was something I wanted to spend more time on. It wasn’t just selling that interested me, but the whole creative process and especially the constant learning, trying and discovering that drew me to it.

What are you currently working on?

I am working on a Light set and a couple of more characters. I hope I will be trying on creating a male character for the first time. There is a constant search for ways to create realistic hair that will not be too memory consuming but there is still a long way to go.

I am hoping to create a V4 “Athena” or “Athens” soon as well – despite all the problems and its flaws – it still is my favorite city in the world…it’s home.

There is also a lot of experimenting with new software (new for me) and Poser in search for something new. I don’t know what that will be and I believe that if we are to bring anything new, we have to collaborate with each other and use all the great minds and talents here.

What software is currently in your digital toolset and why?

Photoshop, Cinema 4D, and Poser, of course. These are my staples as far as product creation is concerned.

Could you list any current favorites among the products you've created and tell us a bit about their creation?

Dublin is one of my favorites because when she was created, there was finally a chance to utilize Poser’s new SSS feature, something I had been envying on other software for years.

London, because I love English Roses.

Rio, because she reminds me of everything great that is Brazilian, from the people to the food and music.

Do you have any advice for aspiring Digital Content Developers?

Just do what you like to do and what you would like using yourself.  Read and ask around and spend many, many hours through trial and errors.

How has this online Community (Renderosity) enhanced your work, relationships, and learning?

The community has generously provided me all these years with an abundance of knowledge. If you are willing, you will learn. I have also made some wonderful friends here even though they might be thousands of miles away.

Do you have any final words or advice for other digital artists?

I would like to thank all the people who have offered me help, knowledge and advice. I cannot be thankful enough for all the help I have received these past years from people truly wishing to share their tips, their art or even their kindness.  A huge thank you to all my customers and the people who wrote in just to say "hi" or some nice words. They have made this one of the best jobs possible.

Kind Regards,

danae
