Who is "designfera" and how did you come by that username?
I´m a Portuguese guy of 33 years, working at home, in a small town in Portugal. The username was suggested by a friend a long time ago and I´ve been using it ever since. "design" because I minored in Graphic Design, and "fera" is Portuguese for something/someone ferocious.
How long have you been creating digital art?
My first attempts at digital work were about 15 years ago, although I only began to really embrace it once I stumbled across Renderosity and Poser, 8 years ago.
Have you had any traditional art experience or training?
Well, I´ve been drawing ever since I can remember and I majored in Fine Arts, in Virginia, USA. Drawing and oil painting have always been a passion and a constant in my life.
What are you currently working on?
Several 2D and 3D nature projects, and a couple of 3D products that I have been working on and off for several months in Zbrush.
What software is in your digital toolset and why?
Poser and Photoshop are the ones I´ve consistently used the most throughout the years. But, I am crazy in love with the new ZBrush! I´ve been teaching myself every chance I get, and I´m just amazed at what one can model with it, in a short period of time. With the help of a tablet, it has been very organic and natural to create. I´ve already released a few products solely made with ZBrush and I will be using it more and more.
How would you describe your creative process?
Constructive chaos, LOL! My mind goes many different directions at once, so I end up working on different projects at the same time.
Where do you find inspiration for your products?
Everywhere! Living in a historically rich and very old country, inspiration comes easily. I grew up amongst pre-historical monuments, roman ruins, medieval castles and cathedrals, and listening to the fantastic tales behind them. So, I couldn´t help but have a very active inner world of fantasy and craziness. I guess my favorite source of inspiration is my own little world inside my head.
Have you ever created product in response to customer feedback?
Absolutely! Whenever possible, I do try.
Do you have any advice for aspiring Digital Content Developers?
People will say to follow the market, see what sells and do that. That is one way to go, I guess. My advice? Look at the products available and find what is missing. It´s more of a gamble, but it usually pays off.
How has this online Community (Renderosity) enhanced your work, relationships, and learning?
I am constantly humbled by the talent I find here and how incredibly kind people have been. Renderosity has become a home to me.
Do you have any final words?
Love what you do, always try to outbest yourself and never ever give up!
A huge thank you to all the good people that buy my products!
