Out in the real world, we all have hobbies and interests in addition to the work we may be most known for. Here at Renderosity, our vendors have their own stories to tell. Things they do away from their products... special projects, awards, citations, or things of interest that most may not know about.
In an effort to better introduce our vendors to the rest of the community, we've asked them to tell us more about themselves, and share their stories. Rather than a straightforward interview, these are their stories, in their own words.
This week, we find out all about artist and vendor, Christophe Parvillé, better known to the community as powerage.
Â
My real name is Christophe Parvillé. I have been an active member for many years (date of registration: 2002) here, at Renderosity. Although known here as a producer of content for Poser, I practiced that activity since 2005, and of course I did many other things before. When the staff informed me that the customers themselves would be interested to know me a little more, I told myself that it was indeed a good way to start the new year by providing a small flashback.
I was born in April 1970 in Versailles (France), and my education was, to say, "chaotic," as the only two subjects that interested me was history and drawing. I drew all the time and on any support, it is certain that my mathematics teachers did not like! In 1984, I had a wonderful gift: a microcomputer AMSTRAD CPC 464! Powerful hyper with 64kb of memory! It was going to break me to draw on ... hum ... I would have to wait for the computer to progress, but I always kept the keyboard... I keep it like a lucky charm :)
At 15 years of age I learned a trade: car upholstery, and once my final exam and learning was obtained, I participated in military service for one year. I returned in 1989, and I decided to change my way and fortunes in life. I found myself engaged in the business of the Bordeaux region, whose business was the rental of equipment for receptions: marquees, tents, furniture, decoration, dishes, etc...
My activities in this business were, say, "varied." Upholsterer-decorator for the full dubbing capitals fabric for prestigious events and I also took care of business communication: paper catalogs, clients' projects and construction of the website.
1995 was an important year for me, because this is the year where I purchased my first PC with the new operating system: Windows 95. This is it, I'm addicted! I discovered 3D through an obscure software, then cheap, which I forgot the name. A friend told me: "Hey Christophe! For 3D work, 3D Studio Max is the top." Ok, so I invested in 3D Studio Max 2.5, and my girlfriend (who was maquetiste PAO at the time) told me meanwhile: "Hey Christophe! For image processing is Photoshop!" Ok, so then I had Photoshop 4 installed on my PC.
The little free time I had at the time (my work took me a long time) was devoted to 3D computer graphics when I was trying to train myself. Not easy at the time when the internet was dial-up, forums and other tutorials did not exist, and especially the telephone bills were huge. So, I searched for books and that's how I learned the basics.
In the early 2000s, I began to produce things in 3D and I decided to apply my knowledge in my professional work and presented the idea to my boss to present client projects in 3D. My boss was excited by the concept and so were the customers as they could see their event before it occurred, and in the industry at the time, we were the only ones who offered this service in Bordeaux.
In 2002, my girlfriend became my wife and gave to me at Christmas, Poser 5. Super! I was going to include characters in my projects easily. In 2004, I resigned and left my employment, due to too much stress and especially the desire to devote myself fully to my passion: graphic design.
In 2005, I started selling my stuff at Renderosity. When people ask me what I do in life and they do not understand my work, now I just answered them: I work in the magic of the internet :)
For the future, I think about investing in a 3D printer. I have lots of exciting ideas and I hope to materialize them, thanks to this revolutionary new technology.
Well, now you know a little more about Powerage, I hope this has been informative for you and I thank you for your interest in me.
All the best!
